A Photographer-at-large
Adnan Onart was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. After graduating from Galatasaray High-School, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Istanbul in the fields of history of philosophy and philosophy, Latin Language & Literature, and General Linguistics. He conducted post-doctoral research at the Frankfurt University as an Alexander von Humboldt scholar with a focus on formal action theory. He taught philosophy and logic as an assistant professor at the Middle East Technical University, as a guest lecturer at the University of Ankara and Hacettepe. After his immigration to the United States, he made a career change and worked first as a programmer and then as a manager in computer graphics and the computer network industries. With his retirement in 2010, Adnan was able to allocate more time to his avocations again — poetry, philosophy and photography. He continues to do so.
Adnan Onart is a published poet in the English language. He was one of the winners of Nazım Hikmet poetry award in Carry NC. In addition to his poems, Adnan has many publications related to philosophy, logic, and computer networks. In his youth, he photographed the plays of the Dostlar Tiyatrosu in Istanbul. In the early days of his immigration, he worked as a door-to-door family photographer for a local studio in Denver, CO. Recently he was hired to photograph the lectures and panel discussions organized by the Mahindra Humanities Center of Harvard University. He is a member of the local Instagram community igBoston.
